We are a year-round schooling type of family…we don’t do winter break or March break or summer breaks. As a Muslim homeschooling family, we choose to have our homeschool year rotate around the Islamic calendar.
For the entire month of Ramadan, we switch gears and focus heavily on Islamic unit studies while easing off on secular studies. And then a week off for Eid celebrations.
And now, with the 10 Blessed Days of Dhul Hijjah upon us, we’re doing the same. 10 days where we switch gears and ease off on the secular studies in favour of learning about Hajj and different types of ebaadah and increasing our time with the Quran.
I’ve put together some of the resources we are planning on using this year insha Allah:
๐น”Migo and Ali: Love For the Prophets” by Zanib Mian
We will be reading the stories of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail ุนูููู
ุงูุณูุงู
from this awesome seerah book. The loveable bear Migo and his little friend Ali along with the colourful and quirky fonts make this a favourite amongst my kids.
๐น”The Green Dinosaur Umbrella” published by Ruqaya’s Bookshelf. The heartwarming story of a cute dino umbrella taken to Hajj by a young boy and the adventures it goes on from Mina to Arafah to the Masjid-al-Haram.
๐น”My First Book About Hajj” by Sara Khan is a boardbook that introduces the first concepts of Hajj to our youngest little Muslims. I did a review of it HERE
๐น”Yan’s Hajj” by Fawzia Gilani follows the journey and dreams of one man in his quest to go to Hajj. I did a review of it HERE.
๐น”ZaKariya’s Umrah”
๐นThe Hajj activity book by @radiance_of_delight This fellow homeschool mom did such a good job creating an activity book to make learning about Hajj fun for little kids. Featuring wordsearches, mazes, poems, and more.
๐นThe Dhul Hijjah colouring poster by Allamah (FREE): Allamah is hands down my go-to for Islamic resources for our homeschool. This colouring poster prints of on regular letter-sized paper and is a nice quiet activity for the kids.
๐น”The Prophets of Allah” unit study also by Allamah is a must-have. For these 10 Days, we will revisit the stories of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail ุนูููู ุงูุณูุงู
๐นMigo and Ali’s Dhul-Hijjah / Hajj book published by @muslimchildrensbooks @zanibmian (FREE) is another part of the Migo and Ali series of resources. It’s a free printable addition to your collection that delves into the topics of Dhul Hijjah and Hajj. Its 20= pages in the same high quality graphics and fonts as the original hardcover books that we all have come to know.
